Tuesday 22 October, 1.15pm to 2.15pm

Take a tour and get to know the history, architecture and collection of the Supreme Court Library. This 60 minute tour is recommended for the legal profession, exploring all four levels of the Library and showcasing the range of current and historical resources that are available in the collection. Due to the instructional nature of the tour (identifying resources and explaining how and when to use them), participants are eligible to claim CPD points on completion of the tour. 

Tuesday 12 November, 1.15pm to 1.45pm

Take a tour and get to know the history and architecture of the Supreme Court Library. Opened in 1884, the Library is of legal, architectural, historical and social significance and has one of the largest law collections in the State. This 30 minute tour is recommended for those who want a brief introduction to the Library and its heritage, exploring the Ground and First Floors.

This year marks 75 years since Lt General Edmund Herring was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria. To mark this occasion there is a small display in the Library about Herring and the Court in 1944.

On display in the Library is the minutes of the first Law Reform Committee meeting that was instigated by Herring, plus the story of the most famous case in 1944 - the Pyjama Girl.

A complete list of the Supreme Court Library's Holdings of journals, law reports and legislation (PDF, 3MB) has been updated and is available to library users. 

The Holdings List is a guide to the shelf location of titles and also notes if there is an online version available to use in the Library. 

Please update any versions you have as they are now out of date.

The Supreme Court of Victoria has launched its podcast series, Gertie's Law

Gertie's Law takes a deep dive into some of the lesser-known, misunderstood or complex parts of the Court's work, such as sentencing, mental health, juries and the criminal trial process. Revisit historic cases, meet the many people who work at the Court and take a closer look at how a modern justice system operates in a 19th century building.

Lyrical Lunchtimes is happening again in 2019, and BottledSnail Productions is calling for performers for the lunchtime concerts. These marvellous concerts are held in the Supreme Court Library, with performers almost exclusively from Melbourne's legal profession. The Library team is in awe of all the wonderful talent displayed in each concert, and are grateful to the performers for their preparation, and their willingness to perform during their lunch hour.

BottledSnail Productions is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to give Melbourne lawyers a creative outlet, and they always welcome new talent.
